Steve started singing and playing the guitar in his early teens. By his late teens he had escaped the bedroom and was the headline act at the Broadmarsh Bus centre in Nottingham on Saturday afternoons.
His musical direction took a different turn in his late twenties when he heard Long Eaton Operatic Society(LEOS) wanted male performers for thier forthcoming production of West Side Story. Undeterred and knowing diddly squat about musicals Steve sang an Everly Brothers song acapella for his audition. Unfortunately LEOS didnt attract enough male performers to put on West Side Story, but they did offer Steve a place ( him being the only auditionee).
The next 15 years saw Steve appear in over 40 musicals for various local musical societies, playing male leads in Brigadoon, Pirates of Penzance, Carousel to name but a few. Steve's boyish good looks landed him the part of Rolf in the Sound of Music at the tender age of 36 - a musical highlight.
Reheasing for musicals is a time consuming business, and Steve decided to get back to singing proper. He joined a local Nottingham rock band(Devils Avocates) singing a wide range of rock and pop. Steve quickly realised that being an advocate of the devil also meant selling your soul, so decided that Rat Pack and swing was more suited to his voice.
Luckily( for Steve) he was invited to try out with the fantastic Beeston Big Band - and the rest is history.
Steve's favourite singer is the incomparable Matt Monro. Naturally Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jnr and Tony Bennet are also firm favourites.
